About PCIC

Who We Are and What We're Doing

An applied research institute studying polymer concrete, and the R&D division of P3 Polymers.

What PCIC Is

The Polymer Concrete Innovation Center is an applied industrial research institute. We are not a university lab, a trade association, or a resin manufacturer. All of our research is intended to produce material systems and application knowledge that can be reliably implemented at manufacturing scale.

The polymer concrete industry is unusual in how little forward-looking R&D it conducts. Most manufacturers rely on formulations developed in the 1970s and 1980s, and focus on validating existing products rather than developing new ones. Academic research exists but rarely reaches industrial implementation. PCIC sits in between — running real experiments on real industrial formulations, and turning what we learn into something a precast manufacturer can actually use.

Polymer concrete is an exceptional material, and the construction industry has barely begun to tap its potential. That's the premise PCIC is built on.

Two Research Tracks

PCIC's research program runs on two parallel tracks. Both generate publishable findings. Both feed into P3's commercial licensing model.

Track 01

Material & Process Research

Cure science, formulation optimization, mechanical behavior, durability, and manufacturing consistency. These are the fundamental questions that govern whether a polymer concrete part comes out right — and they are more open than most of the industry acknowledges.

Track 02

Application Research

Investigating polymer concrete in specific product categories: manholes and utility structures, electrical vaults, drainage infrastructure, and new areas as they emerge. Application research produces complete, deployable solutions — not just feasibility assessments.

What We Study

PCIC studies the full range of polymer concrete systems — resin chemistries, aggregate types, mix designs, and manufacturing techniques. We're not tied to a single formulation; the goal is understanding what works, why, and across which conditions it holds up.

Where possible, we favor safer and cleaner components and formulations — reducing hazards in manufacturing environments without giving up performance.

Who We're For

PCIC's research and writing is aimed at people who need to actually use this material, not just read about it. Our content reaches four audiences simultaneously:

  • Civil and structural engineers evaluating polymer concrete for a project
  • Precast concrete manufacturers considering polymer concrete production
  • Material scientists and researchers working in adjacent areas
  • Technically curious generalists who found the channel organically

PCIC and P3 Polymers

PCIC is the research and technology division of P3 Polymers, a polymer concrete manufacturer that also partners with precast producers across North America. P3's primary market focus is manhole and utility structure precasters, where polymer concrete's chemical resistance to biogenic acid corrosion is a decisive advantage over ordinary Portland cement.
